Gulf Oil Spill: How you can help!

June 21, 2010

Gulf Oil Spill ReliefRegardless of where you think blame should fall, I think one thing we can all agree upon is that something needs to be done to help the people who have been affected by this tragedy and the environment.  What’s going on in the Gulf is the true definition of a catastrophe.  I know that many would like to help but just don’t know what to do.

If you are the kind of person who feels they must be in the middle of things and need to help out by getting your hands dirty (possibly literally), visit the Volunteer Louisiana website for information on where your efforts are needed.

If you are unable to leave for the Gulf Coast to volunteer, there are still other ways to help out, primarily through donations.  In fact, Larry King Live tonight will be devoted to raising money to assist the Gulf Coast through organizations such as The United Way, The Nature Conservancy and The National Wildlife Federation.

Celebrities will be on hand to answer the phones and assist with your pledges.  A list of those involved include: Justin Bieber, Deepak Chopra, Cameron Diaz, Philippe Cousteau, Ted Danson, Kathy Griffin, Chelsea Handler, Randy Jackson, Kerry Kennedy, Lenny Kravitz, Jenny McCarthy, Tim McGraw, Alyssa Milano, Aaron Neville, Edward James Olmos, Victoria Principal, Robert Redford, Gloria Reuben, Tyson Ritter, Richard Simmons, Ian Somerhalder, Sam Trammell, Melania and Ivanka Trump, Pete Wentz, with a special performance by Sting. Count me in for Ian Somerhalder! Yeah, yeah, I know he’s now a vampire on The Vampire Diaries and girls swoon because of that, but I’ll always swoon over him as Boone from LOST!

I’m sure there are plenty of other ways to help and organizations to help direct you, just let your fingers do the typing in the good ol’ Google tool bar and you should be set.
