GOTR ATL welcomes a new local sponsor: Great Harvest Bread Company

July 19, 2010

We are happy to announce that Great Harvest Bread Company has just joined GOTR ATL officially as a local sponsor and community partner. Great Harvest will continue to provide delicious pre-race carbs with their famous, whole grain bread at this year’s Girls on the Run Atlanta 5K races.

About Great Harvest:

Great Harvest handcrafts bread daily using only pure and simple ingredients. Each morning we fresh-grind premium whole wheat in the bakery and blend it with basic, natural ingredients like yeast, salt and honey. Great Harvest never uses chemicals, additives or mixes. The result is bread, sweets and sandwiches that simply taste amazing.

Our bakery is locally owned and operated. It’ s no surprise, then, that we are passionate about being genuine – in our craft, in our customer service, and in our community commitment.  Along with this, we work really hard to make sure that our customers have a great experience and our employees have fun while working hard.

Great Harvest also provides kid’s tours of their bakery including a farm-to-table education on wheat, a demonstration of our mill, and some hands on learning. I can’t wait to take my nephews for a tour the next time they visit.

Some facts about whole grain foods from Runner’s World:

Runners have long practised the art of carbo-loading. In fact, we practically invented it. But, it might surprise you to learn that not all carbohydrates are created equal… So whole-grain foods, which are full of fibre, should be regular staples in your daily diet. Runners, of course, need more than the average amount of carbohydrates, especially leading up to a marathon or other endurance race. Carbohydrates are, after all, the top choice for fuel and the best energy source… Before a long race or run, you want to take in carbs such as whole grains and whole fruits because they will offer slow-burning energy.
