Don’t Hang up your Running Shoes Yet

May 7, 2012

Guest Blogger: Tracy Lott, Atlanta Track Club

Congratulations to all the finishers of last weekend’s Girls on the Run 5K!  Completing a 5K is an incredible accomplishment, and you should be extremely proud of yourselves.  Just because the race is over, though, doesn’t mean it’s time to hang up your running shoes for the season.

The Atlanta Track Club would like to encourage all Girls on the Run Atlanta participants to stay healthy and active throughout the remainder of the spring and summer.  A fun way to stay fit and healthy, as well as to put all the great training you received throughout the spring edition of Girls on the Run to good use, is to sign-up to run other local events.  Finding an event that’s right for you is as easy as searching online for local running events, or you can visit the Atlanta Track Club’s listing of running events on

Along with all the great 5K events that are out there, there are also a number of fun runs just for kids and perfect for you and all your Girls on the Run friends.  One the largest kids-only running events in the Atlanta area is the AJC Peachtree Jr. coming up on Saturday, May 19 in Piedmont Park.

The AJC Peachtree Jr. is a kid’s-only 3K (just under two miles) fun run.  The event features all the fun and excitement of the AJC Peachtree Road Race on July Fourth, including a specially designed finisher’s T-shirt, in a friendly and safe environment.  The course is run entirely within Piedmont Park going past the Active Oval, Lake Clara Meer and the Piedmont Park playground.  Helping to add to the fun and excitement of this year’s event, Star 94 and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Strong4Life team will be on hand to provide support for all the participants.

For more information about the AJC Peachtree Jr. or to sign up for this year’s event, click here We hope to see you there, and happy running!
