GOTR_004Most of us,  even if we hate to run, have gone for a run at some point in our lives. We do this to improve ourselves in some way:

– To be healthier and/or lose weight
– To feel more attractive
– To find “me” time
– To manage stress

The list could go on. 

 At Girls on the Run, we run to break ourselves out of the “Girl Box.” GOTR founder Molly Barker describes the “Girl Box” as that place most of us go around middle school where we begin to become who others want us to be rather than who we really are. Many of us take years to break out of the “Girl Box.” Some of us never do.

The truth is, for most of us, running is probably not the key to breaking out of the box. And that’s not important. What is important is that every one of us finds our own unique way to break free.
